I have done private training with Derrick from the time I was 11 years old to the day I left for college at 18 years old. I am a professional tennis player, currently on a full scholarship for tennis at the university of Texas, and none of this would have been possible if it weren’t for Derrick. Over these last 7 years we trained nearly every day of the week and I saw my strength improve immensely. I started out as an extremely skinny 11-year-old girl but over the years of training with Derrick I put on lots of muscle which has given me a ton of strength on the court to be able to beat girls who are much taller and bigger than me. In every single private session in over 7 years Derrick brought an amazing attitude and energy to every session. He is more than just a trainer to me. He is someone I can always count on if I need something no matter where I am in the country. Derrick has completely changed my life over these years and I value him so much. He is one of the hardest working people I have ever met. Through every session he always, always managed to mix it up. He hardly ever repeating the same movements. His training sessions ranged anywhere from hiit based workouts to lifting weights and everything in between. Also, with such a busy schedule that required a lot of traveling for tennis, Derrick was always very accommodating when it came to switching times or making up days. Lastly, Derrick would always push me outside of my comfort zone and never let me be comfortable which I believe is what allowed me to build so much strength and muscle over the years. I have been fortunate enough to have been a client of Derrick’s for over 12 years and I can’t imagine training with anyone else. Ever!  Whether it’s in one of his classes or a private training session he continuously challenges me, he is never afraid to push me to the next level.   He believes in me and knows “I got this” before I know it.  He’s a technician, always reminding me to pay attention to the details.  I have seen first-hand that it’s in those details that make the difference in staying the same or continuously growing and evolving, getting stronger and faster, gaining power and endurance.  I deadlifted 185 pounds at 59 years young! Derrick lives by example.  He’s not afraid to work hard and he’s not afraid to make you work just as hard.  His energy level is contagious.  He always talks about inspiring the person next to you, which is what he does. Many trainers can train you to lift weights correctly or to put you through explosive conditioning sessions or teach you the fine details of boxing and martial arts (BTW, check out his resume, you are learning from a 5-time World Champion!) but what makes Derrick extra special to me is probably the most important thing I’ve learned from him, Mental Toughness.  There have been times during a triathlon or mountain bike race or 102 mile Gran Fondo that I have started to doubt myself and then I think of all that Derrick has taught me, how to dig deep, how to remember that the mind quits before the body, and how to finish strong.  I can’t wait to see what the next 12 years hold. -Meghan Handy

I have been training with my personal trainer, Derrick Cox, for the past 15 years and my place is to train with him for the next 15 years and beyond. My training has been life changing. I have always been in good health and active for the first 40 years of my life until I developed breast cancer. After 5 years of mastectomy, chemotherapy, and multiple surgeries, I was ready to get back to my good health. Derrick’s knowledge, expertise, and passion for fitness helped me tremendously in achieving my personal physical fitness goals. His high energy will ignite you to live a life of physical training. Derrick has the type of intensity that will help anyone meet their physical fitness goals. Derrick has a complete program that consists of weight training, boxing, kick-boxing, HIIT classes, sprinting, stadium chairs, outdoor run, calisthenic workouts, TRX training, workout band training, and more. He constantly varies exercise and switches up workouts so you are never bored. Derrick won’t let me cut my reps or my workout short. He consistently pushes you to achieve the best of your abilities. The fact that Derrick is an example of what he preaches is motivating to me. He is enthusiastic about fitness and challenges me on a daily basis. I cannot recommend Derrick enough.
